I don’t know about you, but I love plants that have large foliage! They make for a lovely centrepieces indoors, and outdoors, they end up being an awesome focal point! Monstera is one of my favourite plants for the job, and I will tell you some secrets to make it grow bigger in a limited time frame!
I have seen people picking up the smallest variety of monstera, like minima, and trying hard to make it grow bigger. It just won’t work!
To grow a bigger monstera, you have to pick a variety that has a potential to become enormous! My best picks are:
Look at the teenagers. They just can’t grow without food, right? Well, sunlight plays that same role for monsteras.
For indoors, it is essential that you position the plant near an east facing window. This comes with an advantage of mild morning sun exposure, which does wonders for its growth. This location also provides bright and indirect light to the plant for the rest of the day, while keeping it safe from afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
For outdoors, mimic the natural environment of the plant by growing it under the canopy of larger trees. This way, it gets what it loves the MOST—dappled sunlight.
Monsteras need feeding if you want them to achieve the kind of spread and growth you see in the pictures here. The best way to do this, is by feeding the plant with any balanced liquid blend, once in 4-5 weeks, after diluting it to 1/2 of its strength.
