The holiday season is just around the corner, which means that, among other things, hosting season is too. This should go beyond your regular everyday decluttering. Aim to clear off surfaces and minimize the amount of stuff in the party areas (think kitchen, dining room, living room) for a tidy and inviting look.
The entryway is the first place your guests will see when they come into your home so it’s important that it’s clean and tidy. It’s also bound to accumulate a lot of stuff during the party, particularly if you experience chilly fall and winter months when heavy boots and winter coats are a must.
Remove your family’s coats, shoes, and boots from the entryway to create as much space as possible for your guest’s belongings, and then give the entire space a good cleaning. Vacuum the floors and shoe mats, wipe scuffs off the walls, mop thoroughly, and sanitize high-touch areas like the doorknobs and light switches.
Don’t forget to sweep and freshen up your porch too, says Angela Rubin of Hellamaid, a cleaning company based in Ontario, Canada. This will help make a good impression on your guests before they even step foot in your home.
