Blue jays (Cyanocitta cristata) are medium-sized, beautiful birds loved for their striking blue plumage with white underparts and black markings on their wings and tails.
They have a notable crest on their heads. These birds are highly adjustable, living in a range of environments, from woodlands and parks in the cities. One of the biggest reasons for their adaptability is their diet–they are omnivorous and consume nuts, seeds, insects, fruits, and even bird eggs.
They make nests in trees and shrubs and lay 2-7 eggs, with both parents participating in chick-rearing. Their range spans eastern and central North America, more specifically from southern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.
